The UH-1H “Huey” is a transport helicopter and is able to drop off or pick up infantry anywhere on the battlefield, allowing the Southern forces to take advantage this feature to combat the North Vietnamese style of combat.
History
Gameplay Details
The UH-1H “Huey” can only be flown by the Transport Pilot. The Huey can provide support to the South Vietnam forces by allowing them to spawn on the helicopter to be later deployed somewhere on the battlefield. The helicopter can carry a total of six passengers, two of which are the gunners that can provide supportive fire for the Huey, especially when trying to land. When each person is spawned and dropped off, the pilot gets +5 point for each one. If the pilot is killed, the controls will immediately switch over to the co-pilot if available. Once the helicopter's rotors are destroyed, it will be unable to spawn any more infantry.
It should be reminded that Huey can drop off infantry nearly anywhere on the battlefield in contrast to the North Vietnamese Squad Tunnels. In gamemodes such as Supremacy and Territories, the Huey can be a vital necessity, allowing the pilot to land infantry in certain Landing Zones around important objectives. With a Huey and a good pilot, the South Vietnam forces have the advantage to appear anywhere on the battlefield when needed, overturning contested objectives, pushing the offensive on an enemy objective, or putting infantry behind the enemy lines. In order to make these skills possible, the pilot must be swift and fast when dropping off infantry,, as the longer the helicopter is still in the air when landing, the more likely the Huey and its passengers are in danger. Drop offs should be quick and swift, reducing the risk of danger for the infantry, and allowing the Huey to drop off more infantry.
Trivia
- If timed correctly, a pilot can lift the helicopter while switching seats, lifting the helicopter into the air with no pilot in the pilot's seat. The helicopter will be stuck there until the pilot or helicopter is killed.
- Using default commands, pressing the "V" key will tell passengers to bail out of the helicopter.
