Trivia

  • There are many misconceptions about claymores as seen in many video games. As seen in both the game and real life, the claymore will not explode when shot at. Claymores will only be triggered upon detonation, this is because it's filler is the high stable C-4 explosive.
  • There are no laser detonated claymores.
  • While no factory tripwire exists, US Army Field Manual 21-75 instructs soldiers how to improvise a trip wire using a clothes pin and a plastic spoon from an MCE ration.
  • Some soldiers in Vietnam would occasionally eat the C-4 filling of the claymore to either get a high similar to ethanol, or to fake symptoms of hepatitis in order to be evacuated to a hospital in Japan or the US. Eating too much C-4 will destroy a liver, and cause death. For this reason claymores are now marked "warning: explosive is poisonous if eaten". Tripwire Interactive LLC does not advocate the eating of C-4 for any reason, do not try this at home.
